This Sunday, 29th July 2008, is the second annual Yoga fest in Brisbane.

Jonathan Murphy from Radiant Light Yoga has worked really hard to pull off this event, which brings together Brisbane's entire yoga community once a year.

Atma Yoga began as the dream of Atmananda when he was still Bhakta Dirk.

His desire was to create a bridge to bhakti that would serve the burgeoning hatha yoga community. While accepting Srila Prabhupada's declaration that mechanical yoga (hatha yoga, raja yoga, kundalini yoga, etc…) will not lead to liberation, he considered that the many persons getting involved in yoga nowadays might not accept that declaration quite so readily.

What these ambitious yoga participants would need is something that would give them a positive and healthy yoga experience and at the same time an opportunity to experience the potential of Krishna consciousness.

The goal was to give people a transformative experience with mechanical yoga while slowly and lovingly cultivate in them an appreciation for the beauty and magic of bhakti.

As I consider myself "within ISKCON", I consider that what I do is "within ISKCON". The teachers at our yoga school are a mixture of initiated grand-disciples of Srila Prabhupada and aspiring grand-disciples of Srila Prabhupada who have been introduced to ISKCON through association with the devotees who teach there.

Our temples, it is so very important that we learn the science of properly giving and receiving the association of devotees. Actually every guest that comes is Krishna’s specially invited guest. And it is our duty to give them every possible opportunity to make spiritual advancement. It is the first priority.

Lately I’ve been reading a few of the articles on yogadangers.com. I first came across this site a few months ago when it popped up in the Google ads I was trialling on my blog. I read through it then, but revisited it the other day after a recent incident.

On Friday night on the bus home from Atma Yoga I got chatting with a guy who told me he had not been back to the Sunday Feast since I last saw him there because his digestion was “cactus” (Australian for b0rked). When I enquired what was wrong and how it had happened, he explained that it was “tantric misadventure” and then gave me a bone-chilling account that mirrored some of the ones I had read on yogadangers.com about Kundalini awakening gone wrong.

Lord Kapila, the Personality of Godhead, who is the highest authority on yoga, here explains the yoga system known as ashtanga-yoga, which comprises eight different practices, namely yama, niyama, asana, pranayama, pratyahara, dharana, dhyana and samadhi. By all these stages of practice one must realize Lord Vishnu, who is the target of all yoga. There are so-called yoga practices in which one concentrates the mind on voidness or on the impersonal, but this is not approved by the authorized yoga system as explained by Kapiladeva. Even Patanjali explains that the target of all yoga is Vishnu. Ashtanga-yoga is therefore part of Vaishnava practice because its ultimate goal is realization of Vishnu.

If you read the section “Towards Network Centric Preaching: Vision 2011″ from the “Operations Manual for World Domination” that I published in December last year, you’d have read my analysis of how information technology enables massive increases in scalability and speed - exactly what Srila Prabhupada had in mind when he talked of the “lame man and the blind man”.

“Think Steps, Not Programs” is how Andy Stanley and the crew at Northpoint summarize the concept that I spoke about in the article People are the Focus.

The idea is this: instead of having a strategic vision that focuses on programs, you have a strategic vision of a people-process - a pathway that takes people from where they are now, to where you want them to be. You then make sure that you have all the programs you need along that pathway, in easy, obvious, and strategic steps that take them from point A to point B.

Even if you can get a successful Loft program going, the 10,000 year golden age will be over before you manage to make everyone Krishna Conscious.

The reason is that once you max your Loft out (like in Wellington where they have regularly 35 + guests a night for yoga), you can only scale linearly. What’s next - open another Loft? Duplicate the resource requirement? Linear expansion will not make the world’s 6 billion people Krishna Conscious in 100,000 years.

Once you max out the Loft, or whatever your front line preaching program is called, in order to get the kind of gains needed to scale effectively you have to take it to the next level: you have to implement an exponentially scaling solution. That’s cellular networking with the Loft as a hub. That’s why the Bhakti Vrksa idea is so important. It doesn’t work yet*, but we will find the way.

Today I did three and a half yoga classes - five hours in total.

Usually Monday morning is a wipe out after the Sunday Feast. Now with the Yoga Teachers Training Course that we are on we have to be at the yoga studio at 6 am for a two hour led practice session.

Last night I got to sleep after midnight, then got up at 5 am, showered, chanted 7 rounds, and went to the studio. Two hours later I was feeling great, after an hour of pranayama and 45 minutes of asana.

I came home and took breakfast, then chatted with various Atma Yoga staff members about the program, then Param, Prahlad, and I went over to the temple. Our god sister Carana Renu is arriving in Brisbane tomorrow. She has a Ph.D in astrophysics, and will be doing some programs at the university. We went over to the temple to prepare a room for her to stay in.

Literally - here’s our new stage:

We bought this stage this past week. Param Satya and Madana-Gopal lead that one up. This next week we’re going to get another one just like it and then we’ll turn that one sideways and put the other one next to it, to get double the space. You’ve got to build things for growth. This way the guests can sit on chairs, and we can do kirtan sitting down where they can see us. Nothing more boring than staring at the back of someone’s head for half an hour.

One of the implications or complications of the expansion to the new facility, is the issue of the Krishna Kids Club - our program for children on Sundays. We have this program for a number of reasons:

1. To enable the teaching to go on in the main space without the interruption of children in the audience
2. To enable people to come to hear, even when they have children they are responsible for
3. To enable us to give the children an appropriate experience of Krishna Consciousness, targeted to their needs
4. To encourage children to drag their parents along

It has actually become a very popular program, and part of the drawcard for many parents. I know that for many months Param or I would walk the streets outside with Prahlad during the teaching. Once we got the Loft facility next door to Govinda’s restaurant, where the Sunday feast is held, we had a space to go with Prahlad during the program, and we knew there were many others in the same boat as us. So we launched the Krishna Kids Club program under the leadership of Channell.

Ladies and Gentlemen, an excerpt from my upcoming book “Preach on Purpose” - a rough draft of a chapter about the Sunday Feast. Really it needs to be made into a section of the book, and the different parts made into chapters. The information density is really high. Anyway, you might get something from it.

Am Tag vor Radhastami sind wir nach Pisa gefahren, eine Stunde Fart von Villa Vrndavana, um Matsyavatara Prabhu´s Konferenz zu besuchen. Er ist ein Schüler von Srila Prabhupada und ein einweihender ISKCON-Guru. Als wir am Auditorium der Provinz Pisas, einem neuen, großen Gebäude auf einer Hauptstraße in der Nähe des Bahnhofs, angekommen waren, kamen viele Leute vorbei, und 2 Schüler von Matsyavatara Prabhu standen am Haupttor und händigten den Passanten Broschüren mit Lächeln und Enthusiasmus aus.

Obwohl ich nicht viel italienisch spreche, konnte ich sehr gut erkennen, wie gut seine Konferenzen organisiert sind. Alle Gottgeweihten waren sauber in professionell aussehender westlicher Kleidung gekleidet und predigten indirekt, aber effektiv Krishna-Bewußtsein.

"Wir müssen Bhakti in die Herzen anderer verpflanzen" sagte Ihre Gnade Prema Padmini devi dasi dieses Jahr während des Gemeindepredigerseminars in Sri Mayapur Dham. Sie hob die wichtigsten Qualitäten hervor, die ein Bhakti-vriksha Führer entwickeln muß und sprach über ihre Langzeiterfahrung im Gemeindepredigen in Mathuradesh (Mittlerer Osten). Sie ist davon überzeugt, daß das Bhakti-vriksha Programm so mächtig ist, daß diejenigen, die es richtig praktizieren, dazu in der Lage sind, alle notwendigen Qualifikationen zu entwickeln." Alle dieser Qualitäten sind um einen springenden Punkt herum versammelt: "die Dienerhaltung", sagte Prema Padmini Mataji der Zuhörerschaft von 70 internationalen Gottgeweihten. Deshalb wird der Gruppenführer in dem Bhakti-vriksha Programm "Diener-Führer" genannt. Die Dienerhaltung ist eine Basis von der sich die anderen Qualitäten aufbauen. Prema Padmini Mataji erklärte die Führerschaftsqualitäten wie folgt:

Es ist eine Rede von Seiner Gnade Ravindra Swarup Prabhu bei der Dritten Jährlichen Gemeinde Prediger Nacht, Sridham Mayapur, 14. März 2002. Ihr könnt eure Gedanken in der Form eines Aufsatzes ausdrücken oder Zitate der großen Heiligen oder heutiger Prediger die ihr inspirierend findet einsenden. Ihr könnt auch auf Dinge aufmerksam machen die eurer Meinung nach geändert oder verbessert werden sollten, oder einfach ein Foto von euch, eurer Nama-Hatta- oder Bhakti-Vrikscha Gruppe schicken, mit einer kurzen Erklärung.

Einfach gesagt möchte ich euch mitteilen, daß unsere Web Seite für alle zugänglich ist und wir uns über eure Beiträge freuen. Im Moment veröffentlichen wir hauptsächlich Artikel auf Englisch, Spanisch und Deutsch, wir haben aber auch Devotees unter uns die Russisch, Ukrainisch und Italienisch sprechen. Und vergeßt bitte nicht, daß wir eure Artikel editieren können, macht euch also keine allzugroßen Sorgen was Rechtschreibung und Grammatik angeht.

Anakadundubhi Prabhu, ein Schüler von Seiner Heiligkeit Bhakti Caru Swami, ist einer der berühmtesten Sankirtan Gottgeweihten in ISKCON. Prabhu führt die Sankirtanliste häufig an und gilt als der Nummer Eins Buchverteiler in der Welt. Er lebt mit seiner Frau Caitanya-lila im Villagio Hare Krishna Tempel in Nord-Italien. Beide Gottgeweihten haben ihre Leben dem Vollzeit Sankirtan Dienst mehr als 10 Jahre lang gewidmet. Ihre strahlenden Geischter, Ihr sanftes Lächeln und Ihr entschlossener Geist zeigen die Natur echter Prediger. Diese Gottgeweihten haben eine besondere Art des nachfolgenden Programms für die Leute begonnen, die Srila Prabhupada´s Bücher von Sankirtan Predigern gekauft haben. Obwohl diese vom Glück begünstigten Leute noch nicht als Gemeindemitglieder vorgesehen sind, können sie dennoch ein Teil der Gemeinde Demographie werden. Die Art wie Anakadundubhi Prabhu mit ihnen umgeht, setzt für alle Prediger ein Bespiel, die ihre Fähigkeit, sich um andere zu kümmern, verbessern wollen.
